US Government Invests 70 Million to Optimise Recycling
Time: 2017-01-12 15:47:46     Author: Administrator

The US government is looking to invest up to US$ 70 million (Euro 62 million) in a new research institute focused on boosting recycled content in manufacturing and on reducing recycling costs. The Reducing EMbodied-energy And Decreasing Emissions (REMADE) Institute will be headquartered in Rochester, New York, and will develop technologies to reduce energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions in manufacturing by focusing on recycling. According to a project overview document, a primary goal will be to develop technologies that allow recycled feedstock to be cheaper to use than virgin materials. To that end, research will explore technologies to identify desired recycled materials, to gather them, to sort them and to remove contaminants. The technologies will not be specific to any one material or sector; REMADE will support research into the recycling of metals, fibres, polymers and e-scrap.
