On 1st April 2014, Basel Convention Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific got the approval on the application for the Small Grant Project, with the project proposal titled “Assessing the Status of E-waste Recycling in Selected Countries in the Asia-Pacific Region and Facilitating the Environmentally Sound Management of E-waste”. The project will be funded by the Committee under the small grants for technical assistance in assisting Parties to implement the Basel and Stockholm Conventions. The implementing duration of the project is seven months, lasting from February to November 2014.
Seven parties will be invited to involve in this project, including People’s Republic of China, Cambodia, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Mongolia, Sri Lanka and Viet Nam. By conducting literature review, survey and expert interview, etc., this project aims to determine the status of e-waste laws and regulations, standards, technologies and facilities in selected countries in the Asia-Pacific region, and then to analyze the gaps and propose priority areas to facilitate the environmentally sound management of e-waste in the Asia-Pacific region in the near future.
